catsuit

Catsuit

Materials

  • Red, 2 way stretch fabric. Avoid shiny spandex or anything too thin as it will run.
  • Red thread (match the fabric as best you can)
  • Butterick Pattern #6541 suit C - you don't need to use a pattern but it's a lot faster and easier when you can cut out premaid pieces then fit them to your body after
  • A sewing machine (or a helluvalot of patience) - also a serger is a good thing if you have access to it
  • Good sharp scissors
  • Assorted sewing materials (pins, extra needles, seam ripper, etc.)
  • Depending on your body type and the material you buy you may need to get extra elastic for the neck and arms.

Using the pattern(these directions will also come with the pattern:

Open the enveloppe and look at the directions for the appropriate pieces. Then unfold the pattern pieces and cut out the pieces you need for pattern C. DO NOT CUT THE PICES ON THE LINES -cut them a little bit bigger than the actual piece. This way it will be easier to cut them when they are attatched to the fabric.

Open up the fabric and fold it in half - lay out the pattern pieces in the most appropriate order on the fabric, make sure to check the directions for pieces that should be on the fold. Also check the strech-eeness of the fabric in both directions - you probably want the more stretchee direction to be up and down rather than around your body.

Pin the pattern pieces to the fabric and carefully cut out the fabric following the size guide that you need. Be sure to leave enough around the edges for seams. This will probably be marked on the pattern paper itself.

Once the pieces are cut out follow the directions for sewing the pieces together. Try the catsuit on regularly to make sure of the sizing.

When the suit is complete put it on look in a mirror. Look at all places that may need to be taken in and pin them up (you may need another pair of hands for this).

Make sure the neck, arm and crotch seams are solid so prevent visible running in the fabric. Also make sure you can sit down without the seams tearing or the suit ridding up in any unsightly places :)

Don't worry if you can't get the area in the small of your back to fit as tightly as you would like, the thigh holsters will pull the fabric in nicely to your body.

NOTE: IF YOU CANT FIND THIS PATTERN - JUST LOOK FOR AN AEROBIC OR WORKOUT GYM SUIT THAT HAS A SIMILAR NECKLINE AND ARMS. Legs that are too short (calf length) aren't too important because you will be wearing knee high boots.
