Hair

Materials

  • A few covered elastics, or lace, lots of braid elastics (use in cornrows)
  • Hair dryer, steamer or pot of boiling water
  • Small comb, scissors, tape
  • Several wefts of Redish brown hair (in the 30 range)
  • Patience
  • Beads, optional

How to:

If you've never made a hair piece before you could be in for a treat, or lots of frustration. The easiest way to build this part of the costume is to layer several falls (the name for fake hair ponytails that attach to your real hair temporarily). It is best to create one very long loose & dread fall for the base and then layer the other two on top for detail and size. The middle piece is about a dozen braids that go loose at the ends and the top is a short fall that is razored for style. By wearing the base fall hanging straight off your ponytail, rather than trying to get it to cover your hair, and then yusing the other two to cover your real hair, you'll find that they are much more comfortable.

Hair

The best place to get direction on how to create dreadlocks and falls would be this site. These resources available on Quinnster's hair pages are far beyond anything I could ever offer. Click the dreads section and scroll down for most of the info you will need.

NOTE: The hair pieces in the photos above were created by Ceri of Snarl Hair. She would be more than happy to help you with any of your wig, hair piece or hair styling needs. Her prices are also very reasonable! Drop her a line!
